the days that were framed for me.
What were you thinking
when between your fingers
you rolled the clod of my birthday?
Did you wonder if the clay
would stick to the wall
if you threw it hard enough?
Or, being omniscient,
did you let angels
play at the game for a while?
Later, rolling it into a snake,
what made you choose the shape?
Do you really have so many flowers
that you needed yet another pot?
Finally, as you took it simple from the kiln,
what on earth possessed you to gild it?
