Here’s a light and rolling little number that I wrote to please my wife by showing that I think on her all the time. It’s full of inside jokes and personal history, but I hope you’ll find it cute rather than self-indulgent. Enjoy.
Capax infiniti, by the way, means “holding infinity” or “capable of infinity”.
Capax Infiniti Alone lived I near Súwanee Where Spanish moss is on every tree. There was work at the church and the bar for me, Where I poured the drinks until half past three. The Lord’s been very good to me. In those days of living noct’lucently I met a girl named Kimberly. Her hair was dark and her smile free, So I told her she was my bride-to-be. The Lord’s been very good to me. The number of years we courted was three, While she studied her arts and got her degree. We kissed once or twice ‘neath the live oak tree, And fed flying giraffes who longed to be free. The Lord’s been very good to me. I liked her art and eccentricity, And she my poetic oddity. So we married in the town of Micanopy, Just south of the floods on Payne’s Prairie. The Lord’s been very good to me. She was my Kimby and I her Joffre, I lived on beer and she on black tea. We went on a making-babies spree Filling homes from Car’lina to Albuquerque. The Lord’s been very good to me. Gigantic I am, while she is so wee, To fret for our fit you would reasonably. The heat of our love, that sparks upward flee, Made grace abound, which we learnt to give free. The Lord’s been very good to me. Now the black of her hair’s gotten silvery And her backside in curvier than it used to be, The fruit of the fruitfulness that bounced on her knee, In kitchen, in garden, painting wordlessly. The Lord’s been very good to me. Three joys with her bring delight and glee: The grace of her smile’s one I crave to see, And the pleasure of fencing with her bel esprit, But to hold her by my side’s the greatest of three. The Lord’s been very good to me. In glory we are as the angels be, But never forget us is my plea. Remember we built eternally When earth was cupio dissolvi, For the Lord’s been very good to thee.
Oh what a wonderful declaration of love this is!!! It sings from the rooftop, it dances and everything in between! Just love it!!!
